From hospitals and asylums, to cemeteries, schools, theaters, restaurants, parks, bridges, and roads, Kansas State has endless legends and ghostly spirits lingering in the state.

Brown Grand Theatre, Concordia

Built in 1907, Brown Grand Theatre with 650 seats, in Concordia is said to be haunted by the ghost of Earl Brown, who built the theater. Employees have seen Brown's figure several times. Paranormal activities like water fountain sometimes runs continuously for no apparent reason and nails are found sticking out of the walls – have been noted.

Eldridge Hotel, Lawrence

According to legend, the ghost of Shalor Eldridge still haunts the hotel. It seems the Colonel is a friendly ghost, as no scary incidents have been reported. Many believe that Eldridge House's original cornerstone is located in room 506 and thus Eldridge's spirit can be seen in that room. You may encounter apparitions in the hotel's elevator too.

Kansas State University is reported to be haunted by different ghosts at different spots. Nick, the ghost of an ex-football player, is believed to haunt Purple Masque Theater, East Stadium. Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity House is rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of Duncan, a former student who died in the house. . The Kappa Sigma Fraternity House is said to be haunted by the ghost of a boy who hanged himself in the file room.

Sallie House, Atchison

The Sallie House in Atchison, Kansas is rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of Sallie, a girl who died from complications with appendicitis. It is said, she remains in the house as an angry spirit. Paranormal activities have been reported including electronics equipment suddenly stop working, objects move on their own, physical touches, strange coldness, scratches or bruising on people and dogs that bark outside the home, refusing to enter the home.

Stull Cemetery, Stull

Stull Cemetery in Stull, Kansas, is believed to be one of the 7 gates to hell. The devil himself had a child with a witch who was hanged from a tree in the cemetery, and the child was killed. It is said that the devil returns to the cemetery on Halloween Night to visit the witch’s grave. Music artist Ariana Grande also felt an oppressive feeling of darkness and smelled Sulphur – the sigh of the presence of a demon at the cemetery.

Theorosa's Bridge, Wichita

Theorosa's Bridge, 109th Street Bridge, just outside of Wichita, near Valley Center, is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young woman. It is said, a child was drowned by its mother in Jester Creek. According to an urban legend, if you call out to Theorosa at the bridge, she will appear. People have reported the sound of cries, unusual weather changes, vehicle troubles and ghost sightings.

Le Hunt Cement Factory, Le Hunt

The Le Hunt Cement Factory in Montgomery County is believed to be haunted by the ghost of Bohr, a former worker who died in a tragic accident at the site. According to Legends, after Bohr’s death, his co-workers embedded his wheelbarrow, pick and shovel into a wall of concrete that was under construction at the time. His name, as well as his pickaxe can still be seen at the factory ruins."

Brown Mansion, Coffeyville

The Brown Mansion in Coffeyville, Kansas, is said to be haunted by the ghosts of the two children that died in the home. Coffeyville residents also report that during the years that the building was vacant, they would occasionally see green glowing lights on the Mansion grounds.

The Hutchinson Public Library is believed to be haunted by a former librarian named Ida Day Holzapfel. It was her first day of work at another library when she got into a car accident, and ever since, her apparition has been spotted. She has also talked to a staff member in the basement of the library.

Saline River, Saline County

The Saline River is 397 miles long and lies completely within Northwest Kansas. The river is said to be haunted by Native American named “Takaluma”. He was condemned to wander the riverbanks until he found the skull of his father, an Indian chief murdered by white men in the 1840’s. The apparition has been seen by many witnesses.
